The Malta Allied Airgunners Club (MAAC; VO/2558) proudly represented Malta at the prestigious European Field Target Championship 2026 (EFTC 2026). Hosted by ASD Field Target Calabria from July 7 to July 12, 2026, the event took place on the challenging slopes of Monte Caloria in Fagnano Castello, Cosenza. The championship gathered 159 elite shooters from 19 European countries for a week of intense precision shooting. Representing the Maltese flag were five dedicated members of MAAC: Paul Camilleri, Anthony Magri Smith, Rennie Scorfna, Dominic Calleja, and Natalino Falzon. A Fair and Challenging Setup The competition featured a circular configuration designed for fairness. Three distinct courses—White, Blue, and Yellow—were laid out side-by-side in Lane 1, followed by lanes 2 through 25. This setup ensured that every shooter faced identical weather conditions, regardless of their assigned course. Each lane presented two targets at unknown distances between 9 and 50 meters, totaling 50 targets per course. Over the three days of competition, the maximum possible score was 150 points. While Tuesday and Wednesday were reserved for practice and gun adjustments following the travel, the main competition took place from Thursday to Saturday. The event concluded on Sunday with the Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner. Team Malta Results The Maltese team, like all the other shooters, faced formidable challenges, particularly from the tricky, shifting winds that tested the precision and adaptability of every competitor. Despite the difficulty, our shooters delivered impressive performances: Anthony Magri Smith (Veteran PCP): Secured 3rd Place with a total score of 119 (39, 38, 42). He finished behind Guido Kuppens (Belgium, 125 pts) and Gabriele Meggiato (Italy, 120 pts). Rennie Scorfna (Veteran Springer): Achieved 2nd Place with a total score of 91 (26, 33, 32). He placed behind Herbie Von Der Stein (England, 99 pts) and ahead of Vincenzo Maccarone (Italy, 90 pts). Paul Camilleri (Veteran PCP): Finished in 7th Place with a total score of 107 (38, 33, 36).
